"Last Monday, I found out that I would be honored with being named 2023-2024 Teacher of the Year for Calloway Smith Middle School. However, I firmly believe that this recognition truly belongs to the 1500+ students I have had the privilege to serve in public education.
I would like to take a moment to acknowledge the inspiring teachers who have surrounded me throughout my journey. They have played a pivotal role in creating a community that is dedicated to constantly improving our standards, strategies, and practices, all for the love of learning - whether it's reading, writing, or even athletics.
As I share this news, I can't help but express a myriad of emotions. Gratitude, grace, recognition, and appreciation fill my heart. But the most apt way to describe this moment is that I feel seen. It is my goal, my hope, and my passion to ensure that my students feel seen in my classroom every single day.
To all my students, I want you to know that I see you. I see your potential, your dreams, and your aspirations. And I am committed to helping you reach your goals and overcome any obstacles that come your way.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me on this journey. Your encouragement, guidance, and love have played a significant role in my success. Please know that I couldn't have achieved this without your unwavering belief in me.
Let us continue to push boundaries, challenge ourselves, and create a positive impact in the lives of each and every student. Together, we can make a difference."
