Lee Barney and Hattie carried on the family businesses and added other enterprises. Hattie (pictured) assisted her husband with the family enterprises as well as raising the children. Lee Barney and Hattie Kennedy Woods raisde 11 children on the family farm. The family property included a "Grits Mill" the area post office a store and a sugar mill. The family seat was the highest point in Wilcox county in Alabama. The family has since grown from 11 to over 300 descendants. The Woods family has a long history of being self-employed. Big brother General Lee, oldest male of the original eleven, was born December 7, 1898. He and Eloise were married in 1923. General departed this life on April 4, 1974.

Mary Alice "Big Sister" as she was known by her brothers and sisters was the eldest female of the original 11. She married Melvin ( April 10, 1900 - March 27, 1972) in December of 1923. Mary Alice was a homemaker, while her husband worked as a longshoreman. They also raised a nephew named Edward.
Margaree was the 5th of the original 11. She was a life long resident of Thomasville, Alabama. Margaree was married to Stratman Wallace, who was one of many of our brothers who was and are unjustly imprisoned.
Calvin (Mar 3, 1899 - Sept 20, 1973)
Daisie (Apr 25, 1897 - Oct 1983)
A steel and coal worker settled and Daisie was a teacher and ran a home/community store in Birmingham, Alabama.
Malone (Feb 27, 1901 - Mar 9, 1984)
Jesse (Birth Unknown - Aug 20, 1969)
Jesse was a physical education teacher in the Birmingham area. She also served as a member of the World War II Army Corps. Jesse was educated at Alabama State University, B.S. and at Columbia University, NY where she achieved a Master of Art degree. Aunt Jesse was a prolific physical education teacher and swimmer. She taught hundreds of people to swim, including Cuz David Banks.
Malone Woods retired from the postal service in Birmingham, Al. He went blind late in life and was cared for by Jesse's brother Charlie and his family for whom we are eternally grateful.
Rosa ( Feb 25, 1910 - October 17, 2000)
David Sr. (Oct 3, 1912 - Sept 18, 1960)
Rosa was the first of the original 11 to earn a college degree, attending Miles College and Alabama State University. Rosa traveled the world with her husband teaching and continuing her education in Africa, England, France, Spain, Portugal and many locations in the United States. Her husband David was employed by the Farm Security Administration, U.S. Department of Agriculture and by the International Co-operation Administration in the Division of Education, Washington D. C. He worked operational missions in Liberia and Ghana in West Africa.
Ethel (1908 - 1996) married A. C. "Pete" Bettis a railroad man. Ethel was a homemaker.
Bryant Woods (1915 - 1988) retired from the U. S. Army as a Master Sargent after 20 years of proud service to his country. His wife, Grizzell was a retired teacher. She taught for the Mobile County School for many years.
Lee Barney Woods III (1914 - 1973) was married to Mary Alice, (???). They maintained the family tradition of entrepreneurship an lived most of their lives on original family seat (home).
Collins ( June 9, 1912 - Dec 13, 1989) was a professional baker for New York and Polman's Bakeries in Mobile, Alabama. After many years he opened and operated his own shop known as Deluxe Pastry Shop in Prichard, Alabama. He was married to Bertha.
Gullianer is one of the 11 that we know the least. He was a multi-facted person. A fun loving, busy, friendly but tough. Rosa, his sister, described him as always into or up to something.
We are still researching his legacy.
